The sculptural works of the five artists in this exhibition, Michelle Allard, Kristiina Lahde, Cal Lane, Flavio Trevisan, and Akira Yoshikawa, concern themselves with the inextricable unity of order and disorder by evoking its tenuous, fragile nature. All of the artists included here are drawn to pattern and repetition as they engage with these ideas through a process of making, unmaking, and remaking. At the core of each of their unique practices is the experience of materiality, the physical properties and familiarity of the chosen materials, and the central, transformative role of process.
Attracted to order and driven to disrupt it, these artists inhabit and transform the messy world of order and disorder from within. With creativity, confidence, and curiosity they undo conventional meanings of beauty and art and offer in their place a world of infinite possibility.
