The graduating art class at Stouffville District Secondary School have once again brought their fabulous creativity to the Latcham Gallery for the whole of the Whitchurch-Stouffville community to enjoy.  Equipped with skills acquired under the dedicated mentorship of their Visual Art teacher Onalee Creasor, and Dawn Mossop and with special workshops from local artist Wendy Lavalle, the students exhibited, drawing, painting, enacuastic (painting with pigments and wax), collage, sculpture and ceramics.

One of the greatest challenges for these young artists in the process of creating their exhibition is working together as a group to come up with the theme that encompasses all of their collected work. According to student Kaitlin O'Keefe, Altitude is an excellent symbol for what they are showing in the exhibit: “setting high goals, advancement, moving forward, and many other personal meanings.” Another student, Becky Ewert states that “Altitude is a collection of the best art pieces that our individual and creative minds have mustered. There is so much variety in this art class that it is hard to put all these pieces into one category. Our minds have many different levels, our ideas are at different altitudes… the use of media is endless which is evident in our compositions ranging from installation art to beautiful collage pieces. Our art represents who we are as individuals and who we are as a group of artists with limitless passion for sharing stories and messages through our artwork. “

As well as creating all the works in the exhibition, the students in Ms. Creasor’s class worked closely with the staff and volunteers at The Latcham Gallery to gain an understanding of how an exhibition is organized and executed at a public institution. They all worked diligently to create a plan for the installation of work in the Gallery as well, they designed the invites and posters, and planned the opening reception.
